Yet another scary night !!!

"Tina.... I don't think you'll finish your homeworks. Better we'll go without you" said Roopa to her daughter. "OH Vinay! You're back!!! Come here you dirty fellow... You are no more a kid. Dress up quickly. We're already late for the party. Tina... Help your brother please." "Yes amma. I'll stay. That's the best idea. I have 3 tests too... Vinu come here dear. I'll get you ready for the party before dad comes".

"Vinu's ready maa and dad's here too..... Hi dad. I'm not coming for the party. Got loads of homework to do". "All work and no play!!!! Your's mom's theory huh?" said Rajeev as he washed his face. "NO dad. Mom's got nothing to do with this. It's my interest. Sharmi always scores 10 marks more than me in Chemistry, doesn't she? This time she wont."

"Rajeev!!! Vinay and I are ready. And Tina is not coming with us though you think it's a bad idea". "Tinu dear... Take care.Take rest till six and then start studying. Take occasional breaks between your studies. We'll come before midnight. Have your dinner. Dont open the doors for strangers. Be safe. I'll call u now and then"

"Roopa. She knows. She is not a baby" said Rajeev. "I know. But it's the first time we're leaving her alone. Sharmi's family have vacated and there's none at the neighbourhood...... Ok let's go. Bye Tinu".. Roopa waved her hand at Tinu until she went out-of-sight.

Tinu waved her back and saw the car until it became a dot. She then came into the house and locked the door. She went to the bedroom and lay down on the bed to have a short nap. Tinu didnt know how long she had been sleeping. Sudddenly she heard a tap on the front door. She ran to open it. But there was none she could see. She slammed the door back and saw the time. "My God!!! It's 7:00!!!!!" She went to her room, fetched her bag and returned to the hall. She searched her bag for chemistry book drowsily. It wasnt there. 'Oh dear! I left it at the school, I guess... Oh no. My chemistry note is missing too.' Suddenly there was a knock on the window. She felt a sudden chill creeping inside her body. Slowly she went to the window opened it and found the area deserted. She quickly shut the window and returned back to the kitchen. She thought having dinner was a good idea. She laid the table for dinner and opened the dishes. To her horror she found the dishes empty.

Confused, she sat on the sofa trying to concentrate on her maths homework. "No... am getting it all wrong". She couldn't help but hear the sound of dripping water. She went to the bathroom and of course the tap was leaking. She blamed her father and closed it tight. The dripping didnt stop. She felt that the dripping noise became louder and louder and it echoed in her ears wherever she went. Just then she thought of Sharmi and looked at the house which they had recently vacated. Sharmi, though a competitor was a good company for Tinu at times when she was home alone.

She went to her bedroom heavy-hearted, unable to resist the growing noise of dripping water and lay down on the bed staring dreamily at Sharmi's old house. Suddenly she got up and saw that Sharmi's house was well-lit. "Oh no.... Nobody lives there." She saw the window of her own bedroom open. A pale finger with a dirty nail was placed on the window pane. Horror-struck, Tinu didnt move. She just saw and up rose a filthy figure and she found it moved nearer and nearer. Tinu screamed with all her might.. but no... she knew her voice had freezed. She wasn't heard. She could hear the telephone ringing. She sprang up the bed, ran to the telephone and picked it up. But the ringing stopped just before she could reach. She turned slowly and saw the clock. The time showed 5:00. "Oh no..... It showed 7:00 when I woke up she thought. The door bell rang again. Gathering all her courage she went and opened the door. "Trip got cancelled Tinu. Car broke down" said Vinay. She found Mom and dad too. And she saw that it wasn't dark at all. "Dad, what's the time?" "15 past 5. Thought u knew to see the time dear" answered Rajeev. "Mom!!!! I..... I.... think.... I...... had been DREAMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". Roopa and Rajeev stood puzzled by their daughter's strange looks. Tina ran to her room, put her head inside her bag and searched. There was the Mighty Chemistry book for beginners and her notebook too......!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Dad!!! It's confirmed. I've been dreaming."

"COMPUTER PROGRAMMING"- A big nut to crack?

It was Monday. We the people of "Pre-final" CSE (as we term the 3rd year B.E. graduation) had gathered after a short semester holidays. It was a traditional practice that classes will be left free during the first day of the semester (some sort of time for recovery from holiday mood). We had a staff for handling the second hour who was an alter for some other staff on leave. She asked us to write a C program which was actually very easy. We all shouted "Ma'am......... please NOOOOOOO". But she insisted on writing it. "I hate programs" I said to my neighbor and started scribbing inattentively. Then we all started again with "Ma'am......... please NOOOOOOO". The staff was irritated. She asked us "Don't you know to teach an illiterate?". Surprised by the sudden irrelevant question, I stopped scribbling and lifted up my head. "Then why don't you teach the computer? It is an illiterate!". I felt a sense of shame creeping inside me. "My God!!! Am I incapable of teaching an illiterate?" I thought to myself. I looked around to see all faces hanging down in shame. "Ooh! All are ashamed" I thought relieved a bit. We all then started working down with that program. I don't hate programming anymore. Do you???!!!

Strange way of greeting

It was a dark night. The world seemed still. I fell asleep amidst the silence. I was hugging my pillow tight as I slept. Suddenly a hand pulled the pillow out of my hand. "My God!!!! Let it not be a ghost...." I prayed. The same hands put the pillow on my face. I felt the pillow squeezing me. I clutched the hands. Oh! how rough it seemed. I could neither scream nor help me out of the pillow. Struggling hard, I pushed the pillow aside. Opened my eyes to see the face of my 'attempt murderer'. I could hardly see who it was. When a voice shouted "Good morning........". There stood my brother with a big grin showing that he was back home. I jumped out of the bed, sprang on him and beat him as hard i can. "Ooooooo. It wasn't a ghost anyway", I thought relieved.

WORDS OF SWAMI VIVEKANADA

1. Man is born to conquer nature and not to follow it.

2. When you think you are a body, are apart from the universe; when you think; you are a soul, you are a spark from the great Eternal Fire; when you think you are the Âtman (Self), you are All.

3. The will is not free — it is a phenomenon bound by cause and effect — but there is something behind the will which is free.

4. Strength is in goodness, in purity.

5. The universe is — objectified God.

6. You cannot believe in God until you believe in yourself.

7. The root of evil is in the illusion that we are bodies. This, if any, is the original sin.

8. One party says thought is caused by matter, and the other says matter is caused by thought. Both statements are wrong; matter and thought are coexistent. There is a third something of which both matter and thought are products.

9. As particles of matter combine in space, so mind-waves combine in time.

10. To define God is — grinding the already ground; for He is the only being we know.

11. Religion is the idea which is raising the brute unto man, and man unto God.

12. External nature is only internal nature writ large.

13. The motive is the measure of your work. What motive can be higher than that you are God, and that the lowest man is also God?

14. The observer in the psychic world needs to be very strong and scientifically trained.

15. To believe that mind is all, that thought is all is only a higher materialism.

16. This world is the great gymnasium where we come to make ourselves strong.

17. You cannot teach a child any more than you can grow a plant. All you can do is on the negative side — you can only help. It is a manifestation from within; it develops its own nature — you can only take away obstructions.

18. As soon as you make a sect, you protest against universal brotherhood. Those who really feel universal brotherhood do not talk much, but their very actions speak aloud.

19. Truth can be stated in a thousand different ways, yet each one can be true.

20. You have to grow from inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.
